What is lip filler?
Lip Fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid (a substance naturally found in the body) to provide immediate and lasting volume and contour to the lips. Their cross linked properties are designed to enhance volume, shape, and definition of the lips, offering a natural-looking result.
They are perfect for everyone and suits those looking for a subtle natural enhancement, as well as thoughts looking for a more noticeable change. Depending on the desired result, the amount of filler used will be dependant on the individual to achieve their desired look.
How it works?
The injectable filler is injected into the lip tissue with a very small needle to provide definition and volume. Hyaluronic acid, the main property from the lip filler will attract and retain moisture, ensuring your lips look plump and hydrated. The treatment is minimally invasive and typically takes around 15 minutes, however, the appointment time is between 45-60 minutes to include adequate time for numbing and the post filler checks and aftercare.
How much is needed?
For those looking for a more subtle and natural look, 0.5ml would be perfect as they can be gradually built up over time.
For those looking for a more noticeable change, 1ml would be more beneficial.
What to expect after treatment?
- Results are immediate, however, full results after around 2 weeks post swelling.
- Bruising and swelling is to be expected post lip filler, this is due to the sensitive and vascular area. It is normal and although it causes no physical downtime, it is important to consider if there is an important event coming up, for example a holiday or wedding. It is recommended to allow two weeks prior to any events to allow for if there is any bruising post treatment.
- If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores, so please also bear this in mind prior to treatment.
It is also important to avoid any excess sun exposure, extremes of hot/cold, saunas, swimming or strenuous exercise until the redness and swelling has fully settled. - Avoid makeup for 24 hours post treatment.
- If needed antihistamines and cool pack (not ice pack) can be used to reduce swelling post treatment. Arnica cream or gel can also be applied post treatment for any bruising to encourage healing, or tablet form is also available and can be used for 7-14 days post treatment.
Is there anything to consider prior to lip filler treatment?
- Avoid blood thinners (eg. Ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin, alcohol, and caffeine). 7 days prior to treatment Blood thinners increase the risk and size of any bruising.
- Take arnica tablets for 7-14 days prior to treatment. The 30c potency are best.
